Kiem-Phong Vo, usually written Phong Vo, is a computer scientist who, with Glenn Fowler, originated the idea behind the Fowler-Noll-Vo hash function, known as FNV, and is a co-creator of it with Landon Curt Noll. Wikipedia's article on the hash says it was created by Glenn Fowler, Landon Curt Noll and Kiem-Phong Vo. The basis of the algorithm came from reviewer comments that Fowler and Vo sent in 1991 to the IEEE POSIX P1003.2 committee; Noll improved on it in a later ballot round, and the three then named it after themselves. FNV is a non-cryptographic hash function that is very simple to implement, with 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 and 1024-bit variants, and its algorithm and reference source code were released into the public domain. The Python language once used a modified FNV for its default hash before replacing it with SipHash in version 3.4. This entry records only what that article states about his part.
