Yann Collet

Theory of Computation

Yann Collet is the author of the reference implementation of LZ4, a lossless data compression algorithm optimized for fast compression and decompression. The reference implementation is written in C and licensed under a BSD license, and ports and bindings exist for languages including Java, C#, Rust and Python. LZ4 belongs to the LZ77 family of byte-oriented compression schemes and is used by the Apache Hadoop system, natively in the Linux kernel since version 3.11, and in several implementations of the ZFS filesystem. Collet is also the author of the zstd command line utility, which supports LZ4 as well.
