JOVIAL (Jules' Own Version of the International Algebraic Language) is a high-level, ALGOL-derived programming language developed in the late 1950s by Jules Schwartz at System Development Corporation for the United States Air Force's SAGE air defense system. JOVIAL was one of the first languages to include features for structured programming and remained in wide use for embedded military and aerospace systems for decades, including avionics software for several US military aircraft.
