Systems

A System is a named computing system, network, protocol or machine: a specific built thing rather than an abstract idea or a notation, from early computers such as ENIAC through infrastructure such as ARPANET, Unix, TCP/IP and the World Wide Web. A System carries the year it began operating or was first released, its significance, and its link to the pioneers who built it, the field it belongs to, and, where one exists, the earlier system it succeeded. A System is not a Language: a system may be built using one or more languages, but the system is the running thing, not the notation used to build it.
