Visvalingam-Whyatt Algorithm

Computational Geometry Algorithm

The Visvalingam-Whyatt algorithm, also called simply the Visvalingam algorithm, is an algorithm that decimates a curve composed of line segments into a similar curve with fewer points. Its primary use is in cartographic generalisation, where a detailed line is simplified for display at a smaller scale.
