Graph Database Management System

A graph database management system stores data as nodes and the edges connecting them, keeping each relationship as a directly stored fact rather than something a query has to reconstruct by joining separate tables together. Because a relationship is retrieved as an existing stored link rather than computed at query time, traversing many connected records, such as following a chain of related entities several steps deep, stays fast even as the number of connections grows, in a way a relational join-heavy query typically does not. This design suits densely interconnected data such as social networks, recommendation engines, fraud detection graphs and knowledge graphs, where the relationships between records carry as much meaning as the records themselves and are queried as often as the records are.
