NewSQL and In-Memory Databases

Database systems that aim to combine the scalability of newer data stores with the transactions and SQL interface of the relational model. VoltDB, now called Volt Active Data, is an in-memory database designed by Michael Stonebraker, Sam Madden and Daniel Abadi, and TiDB is an open-source NewSQL database that supports hybrid transactional and analytical processing. Volt Active Data keeps its data in memory, and TiDB is named for the element titanium.
