Alexander Stepanov is a Russian-American computer scientist best known as the primary designer and implementer of the C++ Standard Template Library, begun around 1992 while he was at Hewlett-Packard Labs, and as a leading advocate of generic programming, the practice of writing algorithms and data structures that work across many types rather than being rewritten for each one.
