American electrical engineer who co-designed ENIAC with John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School, then co-founded the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation and co-designed UNIVAC I, the first commercial computer built in the United States. He and Mauchly were principals in the Honeywell v. Sperry Rand case, the 1973 US court ruling on priority for the ENIAC patent.
