Joe Armstrong was a British computer scientist specializing in fault-tolerant distributed systems who co-designed the Erlang programming language in 1986 with Robert Virding and Mike Williams at Ericsson. He held a PhD in computer science from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, awarded 2003, and became a KTH professor in 2014.
