Eiffel is an object-oriented programming language designed by Bertrand Meyer and Eiffel Software, described in a 1985 paper as a language for building reliable, reusable software, and first released commercially in 1986. Eiffel is used in various sectors, including aerospace, banking, video-gaming, and railway transportation. Eiffel is centered on Design by Contract, an approach Meyer pioneered that embeds preconditions, postconditions and class invariants directly into the language.
