Csound

Procedural Language

Csound is a computer programming language for sound, also known as a sound compiler or an audio programming language, or more precisely an audio domain-specific language. It is called Csound because it is written in C, as opposed to some of its predecessors. It is free software, available under the LGPL. The Programming Language Database dates it to 1985 and records that early development happened at MIT, and the same page lists C, SAOL, Python, Java, Lisp, Tcl and Haskell among related languages and tools. The database also notes that GitHub supports syntax highlighting for it and that the csound.com domain was registered in 2008.
