AutoLISP is a dialect of the Lisp programming language built specifically for use with the full version of AutoCAD, the computer-aided design program from Autodesk, and with its derivatives, which include AutoCAD Map 3D, AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD Mechanical. It was created in 1986 by David Betz, and its early development took place at Autodesk and at Basis Software. Lisp influenced its design, and it sits in the long line of Lisp dialects that includes Interlisp, Common Lisp, Scheme and Emacs Lisp. Neither the application programming interface nor the interpreter needed to run AutoLISP code is included in the AutoCAD LT product line, so the language is available only in the fuller editions of the drawing program. The page it is drawn from lists eighteen related languages, most of them other Lisp dialects. It still appears in the TIOBE Index of language popularity and has an entry in the History of Programming Languages register.
