QML, the Qt Modeling Language, is a user interface markup language used to design applications that centre on their interface. It is a declarative language, similar in feel to CSS and JSON, in which the structure and relationships of interface items such as rectangles are described as nested objects with properties that can refer to one another. Inline JavaScript code handles the imperative aspects of an application, so behaviour can be written alongside the declarative layout. The Programming Language Database dates QML to 2009, records that its early development happened at Qt Group, and lists JSON and JavaScript among related languages. It also reports a large number of public repositories written in the language.
