OpenCL

Concurrent Language

OpenCL, short for Open Computing Language, is an open standard framework for writing programs that run across heterogeneous platforms. A single OpenCL program can target central processing units, graphics processing units, digital signal processors, field-programmable gate arrays and other processors or hardware accelerators. The standard specifies programming languages, based on C99 and C++11, for programming those devices, together with application programming interfaces that control the platform and launch programs on the compute devices. OpenCL offers a standard interface for parallel computing built on task-based and data-based parallelism. The Programming Language Database dates the language to 2009 and records that early development happened at the Khronos Group, and it lists OpenGL, CUDA, C and LLVM IR among related languages and technologies.
