Languages used to describe and model the behaviour and structure of digital electronic circuits, so that a design can be simulated and verified before it is built. Verilog and VHDL are the two standard languages of the field, SystemVerilog extends Verilog with verification features, and ABEL and AHDL were written for programmable logic devices. Verilog is standardized as IEEE 1364 and SystemVerilog as IEEE 1800, while VHDL can model digital systems at many levels of abstraction.
