R is a programming language for statistical computing and data visualization, made available as free and open-source software under the GNU General Public License. It has been adopted widely in fields such as data mining, bioinformatics and data analysis. R is a scripting, interpreted language that provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques, and it was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and is currently developed by the R Development Core Team.
