The Chudnovsky algorithm is a fast method for calculating the digits of pi, based on Ramanujan's pi formulae and published by the Chudnovsky brothers in 1988, when it was used to calculate pi to a billion decimal places. It has been used in a long series of world record pi calculations since, including roughly 2.7 trillion digits in December 2009, 10 trillion digits in October 2011, 100 trillion digits in March 2022, and 314 trillion digits reported in November 2025 using the software y-cruncher.
