Real-Root Isolation

Numerical Algorithm

Real-root isolation is a technique in numerical analysis and computer algebra for producing disjoint intervals of the real line, each containing exactly one real root of a polynomial, whose union contains every real root of the polynomial. It addresses a limitation of ordinary root-finding methods, which often cannot certify that all real roots have been found, and it is more efficient than computing every complex root, since a polynomial typically has far fewer real roots than complex ones.
