Randomness Test

A randomness test, or test for randomness, is a procedure used in data evaluation to check whether a set of data can be described as random, meaning free of any detectable pattern. In stochastic modeling and computer simulation, such tests are used to verify that candidate input data, for instance from a random number generator, is suitable for use in simulation runs; data that shows an obvious non-random pattern, such as a run of steadily decreasing digits repeating itself, fails the test. When a data set fails randomness tests, its generating parameters can be changed, or different randomized data can be substituted, until data that passes the tests is obtained.
