D, also known as dlang, is a multi-paradigm system programming language created by Walter Bright at Digital Mars and released in 2001, originally conceived as a reimplementation of C++ but which became a distinct language, influenced by C++, Java, C#, Eiffel and Python. D is statically typed and compiles directly to machine code, aiming to combine the performance and safety of compiled languages with the expressive power of modern dynamic languages.
