All Smalltalk-Derived Languages

Smalltalk-Derived Languages are object-oriented programming languages that carry Smalltalk's own live, reflective object model, in which every value is an object and behavior happens through objects sending each other messages, forward as a continuous lineage rather than a family that merely resembles Smalltalk on the surface. Wikipedia's own account of Squeak, the language chosen to anchor this group's citation, states that Squeak is an open source implementation derived from Smalltalk-80 Version 1 by way of Apple Smalltalk, built by a group that included some of Smalltalk-80's original developers, first at Apple Computer and then at Walt Disney Imagineering. That same direct-derivation shape, a later implementation or dialect built by extending or forking an earlier Smalltalk environment rather than merely imitating its syntax, is what qualifies a language for this group; each further member placed here carries its own separate citation for the specific lineage fact that puts it in this family.

In September 1972, Kay made a bet that the core of a programming language based on the idea of message passing could be implemented in "a page of code"; by about the eighth morning, a working interpreter scheme had emerged, forming the basis for what is now termed Smalltalk-72.
