Barrelfish is a discontinued, open source distributed operating system developed by researchers at ETH Zurich and Microsoft Research. Its original motivation was formed in 2006 by Timothy Roscoe and Paul Barham, the project was announced in September 2009, and its final official release came on March 23, 2020.
