Nancy Lynch is an American computer scientist at MIT and a foundational figure in the theory of distributed computing, the study of how independent computers coordinate correctly despite delays, failures and unpredictable ordering of messages. She co-authored the widely used textbook Distributed Algorithms and co-developed formal modeling tools such as I/O automata for rigorously proving that distributed and concurrent systems behave correctly.
