Algorithms designed for many processors or machines that work at once or cooperate over a network. It covers the collective operations and communication patterns of parallel programs, methods that reduce the cost of moving data between processors, and the protocols distributed systems use to order events and share resources safely. An algorithm belongs here when its design is shaped by concurrency or by communication between separate agents. It excludes single-processor algorithms that only happen to be run in parallel, and network traffic control, which belongs to Network Algorithm.
