Distributed and Parallel Systems

This group gathers pioneers of computer systems organization whose primary contribution was computing across more than one machine or processor at once, including distributed operating systems, distributed file systems such as the Andrew File System, distributed hash tables, consensus and fault tolerant distributed algorithms, cluster and grid computing such as Beowulf clusters, high performance and supercomputing infrastructure, cloud and data center design, sensor networks, and peer to peer and volunteer computing systems such as SETI@home and BOINC. It follows the Distributed systems and Parallel computing second level headings of the ACM Computing Classification System under Computer systems organization. Their shared work is coordinating computation, storage or communication across multiple machines, as distinct from a single machine's own architecture, processor design or hardware.
