Software Tools and Development Environments

This group gathers pioneers of software and its engineering whose primary contribution was a tool, library, framework or environment that developers use to write, test, build, package or run software, including integrated development environments, version control systems, build tools, testing and debugging frameworks, and widely used application software such as spreadsheets and web browsers built by software engineers. It follows the Software Development Techniques and related tool support headings of the ACM Computing Classification System under Software and its engineering. Their shared work is the practical apparatus of software construction, as distinct from a language, its compiler, or the process methodology that governs how a team uses these tools.
