Marvin Minsky

Marvin Lee Minsky was an American mathematician who conducted research in the cognitive and computer science aspects of artificial intelligence. He joined the faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1958 after three years as a Junior Fellow of the Harvard Society of Fellows, spent the rest of his career at MIT, and co-founded its Artificial Intelligence Laboratory; Minsky, Claude Shannon, Nathaniel Rochester and John McCarthy have been called the fathers of AI for their participation in the 1956 Dartmouth workshop. He received the 1969 ACM Turing Award, the 1990 Japan Prize, the 2001 Benjamin Franklin Medal, and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1973 and the National Academy of Engineering in 1989.
