Paul Viola

Paul Viola (born 1966 in New York) is an American computer vision researcher best known as co-inventor, with Michael Jones, of the Viola-Jones object detection framework, an algorithm for real time face detection that became one of the most widely deployed techniques in computer vision. His career has included positions at MIT, Microsoft Research, Amazon Prime Air and Zoox, and he holds more than 57 patents and has authored more than 50 papers cited over 56,000 times. He received the Marr Prize in 2003 and the Helmholtz Prize in 2013 for the lasting impact of the Viola-Jones framework.
