Yejin Choi

Yejin Choi, born in 1977, is a South Korean-American computer scientist whose research focuses on natural language processing and computer vision, particularly the challenge of giving machines commonsense reasoning. She holds the Dieter Schwarz Foundation professorship at Stanford University's Department of Computer Science and is a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, after earlier faculty positions at the University of Washington and Stony Brook University and a research role at the Allen Institute for AI. Her work includes ATOMIC, an atlas of machine commonsense knowledge, and COMET, a system for generating commonsense inferences, as well as computational methods for detecting bias in language. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2022 for this body of work.
