Eric Horvitz is an American computer scientist and Technical Fellow at Microsoft, where he serves as the company's first Chief Scientific Officer. He previously directed Microsoft Research Labs at multiple international locations including Redmond, Cambridge and Bangalore, and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2013 for his work on computational decision making under uncertainty and resource constraints; his research spans machine learning, human computer interaction and artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on bounded rationality and decision theory.
