Nikolaos Bourbakis is a Greek computer scientist born in Chania, Crete on December 10, 1950, who held the Ohio Board of Regents Distinguished Professorship of Information Technology at Wright State University, where he directed both the Information Technology Research Institute and the Assistive Technologies Research Center. His research addresses image processing and artificial intelligence, including space filling curves for image processing and intelligent visual navigation for autonomous robots, building on a mathematics degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a doctorate in computer engineering and informatics from the University of Patras in 1983. He founded and served as editor in chief of the International Journal on Artificial Intelligence Tools and received the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award in 1998.
