Barbara J. Grosz (born July 21, 1948, in Philadelphia) is the Higgins Professor of Natural Sciences at Harvard University, recognized for seminal contributions to natural language processing and multi agent systems. She developed early computer dialogue systems and established the research field of computational modeling of discourse, and her work on models of collaboration provided frameworks used in multi agent and human computer interface systems. She was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2008 for pioneering research in natural language communication between humans and computers, served as dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study from 2007 to 2011, and co-founded Harvard's Embedded EthiCS programme with Alison Simmons.
