Sven Koenig is a German computer scientist and Chancellor's Professor and Bren Chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, specializing in artificial intelligence and robotics. He earned a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991 and a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in 1997 under Reid Simmons, and is known for developing techniques for planning and learning under uncertainty, including the incremental heuristic search algorithms Lifelong Planning A* and D* Lite, which have been incorporated by others into path-planning systems in robotics.
