Bill English (William Kirk English, January 27, 1929 - July 26, 2020) was an American computer engineer who, working under Douglas Engelbart at SRI International's Augmentation Research Center, built the first working prototype of the computer mouse from Engelbart's notes in 1963 and became its first user. English joined Engelbart's lab in 1964 and served as technical director and producer of The Mother of All Demos on December 9, 1968, the landmark San Francisco demonstration that showed early hypertext, video conferencing and collaborative editing. He later moved to Xerox PARC, where he continued his work on interactive computing systems.
