Ubiquitous and Mobile Computing

Ubiquitous and Mobile Computing groups the computing pioneers in this atlas whose central, explicitly stated contribution concerns making computing available anywhere, on any device, rather than confined to a desktop workstation. Members range from researchers who founded ubiquitous computing as a named field of study and applied it to real-world settings such as assistive and health technology, through those who built systems for mobile and wearable devices that sense a person's context and adapt to it. This is a named subarea of the ACM Computing Classification System Human-Centered Computing area, distinct from Human-Computer Interaction's narrower interface concerns: a pioneer belongs here when the cited contribution is specifically about computing that follows a person into everyday physical settings and devices, not about a single fixed interface.
