Anatoly Ivanovich Kitov (August 9, 1920 to October 14, 2005) was a Soviet computer scientist and a pioneer of Soviet cybernetics. He founded the USSR's first computer department, at the Artillery Academy in 1952, and established the country's first Computer Centre in 1954, where he directed development of military computers including the M-100 and Udar and created the algorithmic programming languages ALGEM and NORMIN. In 1959 he proposed an early plan for a nationwide computer network to coordinate the Soviet economy and military, an idea that anticipated later systems such as OGAS, and in the 1970s he became a leading figure in medical cybernetics, developing automated healthcare management systems and representing the USSR internationally in medical informatics for twelve years.
