Jean-Maurice-Emile Baudot (11 September 1845 to 28 March 1903) was a French telegraph engineer and inventor of Baudot code, the first practical means of digital communication. He developed a multiplexed printing telegraph system that enabled multiple transmissions over a single telegraph line and invented apparatus that automatically converted telegraph signals into typographic characters, work that revolutionized the telecommunications technology of his time.
