Daniel Harple (born July 23, 1959) is an American entrepreneur, investor, inventor and engineer known for his role in creating several Internet standards, including the Real Time Streaming Protocol used in systems such as YouTube, RealPlayer, QuickTime and Skype. He holds core technology patents in Voice over IP, media streaming, real time web communications, collaborative computing and location based social media. He was co-founder, chairman and CEO of InSoft, Inc., which merged with Netscape in 1996, and he co-founded the enterprise content integration company Context Media, sold to Oracle in 2005, and the location-based social network provider GyPSii in 2007. He is currently CEO and managing director of the Amsterdam-based Shamrock Ventures BV.
