Systems Security

Systems Security groups the computing pioneers in this atlas whose central, explicitly stated contribution is defending operational computer systems and networks against intrusion, malware, and unauthorized access, rather than the design of cryptographic algorithms themselves. Members include researchers and practitioners who built early intrusion detection systems, access control models, and network security engineering practice, investigators who documented and prosecuted early computer intrusions, and specialists in web, mobile, cloud, and protocol security. The group covers Systems Security and Network Security as subareas of the ACM Computing Classification System's Security and Privacy area, distinct from this atlas's separate Networks-subcategory pioneer group Network Security, which classifies general networking pioneers rather than Security and Privacy subcategory pioneers, and distinct from this atlas's Applied Cryptography group, which classifies algorithm and protocol designers.
