Ross J. Anderson

Ross John Anderson (September 15, 1956 to March 28, 2024) was a British researcher, author and industry consultant in security engineering, and Professor of Security Engineering at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge, where he was part of the university's security group. His research encompassed banking security, security economics, information policy and cryptography, he co-designed the Serpent cipher, a finalist in the Advanced Encryption Standard competition, and contributed to the BEAR, LION and Tiger cryptographic primitives. He founded the Foundation for Information Policy Research in 1998 and received the BCS Lovelace Medal in 2015.
