Bob Frankston (born June 14, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York) is an American software engineer who co-created VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet program for personal computers, with Dan Bricklin, and co-founded Software Arts to develop and sell it. VisiCalc, released in 1979, is widely credited with driving early business adoption of the personal computer. Frankston later worked at Lotus Development and Microsoft, and became known as an advocate for reducing telecommunications carriers' control over internet infrastructure.
