Tom Crick

Tom Crick (born January 1981) is a British computer scientist, science and technology policymaker and senior civil servant, serving as Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Professor of Digital Society and Policy at the University of Bristol. He completed his PhD at Bath University after an undergraduate degree sponsored by Arm, then took his first academic post as a computer science lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2009 before moving to Swansea University in 2018, and led reform of Wales's school-level science and technology curriculum from 2010 onward, uniting the traditional sciences with computer science and design and technology; he was appointed MBE in 2017 for services to computer science and the promotion of computer science education. He is editor-in-chief of The Computer Journal since 2021 and was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the ACM for a term beginning July 2026.
