Alex Aiken is an American computer scientist who holds the Alcatel-Lucent Professorship in Computer Science at Stanford University and serves as Computer Science Division Director at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer science and music from Bowling Green State University in 1983 and a PhD from Cornell University in 1988, and before joining Stanford in 2003 he was a research staff member at the IBM Almaden Research Center and a professor in the electrical engineering and computer sciences department at the University of California, Berkeley. His research centers on programming languages, including projects on deep learning parallelization and programming systems for heterogeneous parallel machines. He is an ACM Fellow and received the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Languages Achievement Award.
