Hans-J. Boehm is a computer scientist known for co-designing, with Alan Demers and Mark Weiser, the Boehm-Demers-Weiser garbage collector for the C and C++ programming languages, commonly called the Boehm GC. First released in 1988 and first described in an academic paper in 1992, it is a conservative garbage collector distributed as free software. He received the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Languages Achievement Award in 2020.
