Stanley Gill

Stanley Gill (1926 to 1975) was a British computer scientist credited, together with Maurice Wilkes and David Wheeler, with the invention of the first computer subroutine. During the 1950s he worked at Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory on the EDSAC computer. He later held academic posts at UMIST and at Imperial College London, where he established the Chair of Computing Science and became director of the Computing Centre.
