Keith Bostic (born July 26, 1959) is an American software engineer recognized as one of the principal architects of the 2BSD, 4.4BSD and 4.4BSD-Lite releases of Berkeley Unix, work that removed the last AT&T-licensed code from BSD and made possible the free descendants FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD. He co-founded Sleepycat Software with his wife Margo Seltzer in 1996 to develop Berkeley DB, an open source key-value database engine later acquired by Oracle in 2006. Bostic also wrote nvi, a reimplementation of the vi text editor, and contributed to POSIX standards development.
