Mary Allen Wilkes is an American computer programmer, later a lawyer, known for her work on the LINC computer, a machine now widely recognized as an early personal computer. Working from her parents home in Baltimore in 1964 and 1965, she is generally regarded as the first person to use a computer in a home setting, and she developed LAP6, an interactive operating system for the LINC that let a user prepare and edit documents in real time, an early form of word processing.
