Stephen R. Bourne

Stephen R. Bourne is a British computer scientist who, while working at Bell Labs, created the Bourne shell for Version 7 Unix, released in 1979. The Bourne shell became the standard command interpreter and scripting language across Unix systems for decades, and its syntax and conventions directly shaped later shells including the Bourne-Again shell (bash) that succeeded it on most Linux systems.
