John Ousterhout

John Ousterhout is an American computer scientist, long at Stanford University and previously the University of California, Berkeley, who created the Tcl scripting language and its companion Tk graphical toolkit. At Berkeley he also led the group that built the Sprite operating system and designed the first log-structured file system, an approach to writing file data sequentially that influenced later storage systems. He later founded and led Electric Cloud, a company built around software build acceleration, and co-developed the Raft consensus algorithm, designed as an easier to understand alternative to Paxos for keeping replicated systems in agreement.
